District dietetic associations are non-profit organizations whose members include Registered Dietitians and Dietetic Technicians, Registered. They may operate under a separate business plan, organizational mission and strategic plan. These members are also members of the Kansas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Districts are formed according to geographical regions of the state of Kansas. These regions are identified by counties. They serve the communities that members live in by promoting optimal nutrition, health and well-being. Districts observe the Principles of Affiliation which is a policy that defines the relationship between each district and KSAND.

Districts may include a mission and strategic plan that supports KSAND as well as other non-profit organizations. Often the district offers professional education opportunities, fundraisers and public policy initiatives.
