Legislative Day

Registered dietitian nutritionists are vital in advocating for sound public health nutrition policies and nutrition related legislation. Both the Academy and KSAND provide public policy workshops to assist members in developing public policy skills. The Academy’s workshop includes meeting with federal members of congress in Washington, D.C. and the KSAND workshop includes meeting with state legislators.

Public Entrance for the Capitol: North side of Capitol, Ground Floor at the semi-circular drive (street level) off of SW 8th Street between SW Harrison St on the West and SW Jackson  St on the East. Capitol public parking entrance is on 8th Street (do not take the sidewalks up to the Capitol building doors). All visitors must enter through the Capitol Security Checkpoint (additional parking information below).

Parking Information at the Capitol: Public parking in the Capitol garage is limited to 2 hours. Please use metered parking or one of the private parking garages listed below that are very near to the Capitol. http://www.kshs.org/p/kansas-state-capitol-parking/11708

  • Street, metered parking on SW Jackson Street between SW 8th and SW 9th avenues for up to 10 hours. Meter fees vary. Visitors enter the building on groud level at the semi-circular drive on SW 8th Avenue.
  • Crosby Place Parking Garage, 108 SW 8th Avenue, between S Kansas Avenue and SW Jackson Street. Hourly fee.
  • Centre City Parking Garage, 109 SW 9th Avenue, between S Kansas Avenue and SW Jackson Street. Hourly fee.
